How do I make regular progress?
Progress is made through discipline. Tortoise Piano provides a daily practice routine designed to produce top results. Our practice routine scrutinises every aspect of your piece to ensure it is completed to a high standard. Students who aim to make regular progress are expected to follow this routine diligently.
How do I know what to practise at home?
Notes will be recorded and taken home with the student every week alongside our practice routine. This will be in a notebook for face-to-face students and by text for online students. Notes are points for improvement. The practice routine is the order of practice. Online students will receive the digital format of our practice routine. The student must read everything and implement every point into their practice. Progress is built on weekly improvements so it's essential that practice begins on the first lesson.
I'm going on holiday. How will this affect my progress?
Week long holidays or longer are likely to set your progress back, especially for younger students. We recommend students take a foldable or fabric, roll-up keyboard with them to maintain their progress.
I'm a parent and my child below 13 is taking lessons. What can I do to help?
Allocate a time of day, each day, for piano practice. Read through their notebook and supervise them until every point is accomplished. This shouldn't take longer than 10 minutes.
I'm a beginner with a budget. What keyboard should I buy that won't hinder my progress?
For hobbyists, a keyboard with weighted keys, 64 keys minimum. For serious students and grade students, an 88 key digital piano with full-size, touch-sensitive, weighted keys and the pedals built into the structure.
